THE ARTS IN WORSHIP AT RPC

CORE VALUES: WORSHIP
The glory of God is our center. In worship we gather to adore and celebrate Jesus Christ, our living King. He is the primary audience who promises to gather with his people to receive their praise, thanksgiving, repentance, and devotion.

This is why we endeavor to offer a kind of worship that is fitting for an all-powerful, risen King: majestic, earnest, sincere, and joyful.

STRATEGY FOR MINISTRY: WORSHIP
RPC is committed to worship that is God-centered, Christ-exalting, and Word-focused. Thus we strive for worship that encourages awe and reverence, joy and intimacy. Reverence and awe do not exclude the expression of joy and emotion. True worship will engage the whole person, mind and emotions, resulting in renewed passion for Christ. We express our connection to the past and our relation to the present through musical diversity and the use of historic creeds and confessions.

RATIONALE FOR USING THE ARTS IN WORSHIP
  • God is the source of beauty and truth
  • God has created us in His image for His glory
  • As image bearers, we have been gifted with both the need and the ability for creativity
  • When we express beauty and truth our creativity gives glory to God
  • We seek to give glory to God in worship by expressing our creativity through the ministries of music, the spoken and written word, and the visual arts
MUSIC MINISTRY MISSION STATEMENT
It is our mission as overseers of the music ministry to:
  • be wise stewards in the careful and gracious utilization of the musical gifts with which God has blessed our congregation
  • have an aesthetic sensibility in choosing music that is the best we can offer in terms of what is appropriate for worship and in terms of matching individual and group talents to musical styles and selections, whether they be classical, traditional, or contemporary
MUSIC MINISTRY VISION STATEMENT
Our vision is for the creation of an environment that encourages and enables participants to be equipped to lead the congregation in worship.

MUSIC MINISTRY GOALS
  • to identify and develop the musical talent of the church
  • to inspire fellow musicians, fellow worship leaders and the congregation through the use of musical talents
  • to bring together the choir, organists, and praise teams in unified expression
  • to provide a variety of instruments/styles with different teams, in order to allow the congregation to fully express praise to our Lord
  • to emphasize a spirit of worship while maintaining musical excellence
  • to allow for spiritual expression in all of its dimensions: thanks, praise, confession, supplication
THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH MUSICIAN
  • a facilitator who leads others in worship
  • a member of a team who senses how his/her part fits into the worship service as a whole
  • one who feels called (God calls us through a variety of means: His Word, prayer, the encouragement of others, etc.) to use his/her musical gifts in the church
