Friends of Matthew
"Friends of Matthew" is a team of high school students who "buddy up"
with one of our children with multiple disabilities when he attends Sunday
School. Friends of Matthew started several years ago so that Matthew's
parents could attend church while he participated in Children's Worship with
his peers. Now that Matt is older, he is attending Sunday School with the
assistance of his buddies. We recruit a new team of Friends of Matthew each
August. A training session is offered to learn how to best meet Matt's needs,
how to work within the Sunday School setting, and to communicate with Matt
using his assisted communication device. If you would like to be part of this
life-changing ministry, please contact anyone on the Special Needs Committee.
Don't be surprised if your life is the one that really changes! Many of our
Friends of Matthew volunteers have gone on to study Occupational Therapy,
Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Special Education.
